Very well made of quality materials. Made in America too! My wife gave me this feeder for my birthday to replace an old thistle feeder that had a tray on the bottom. I like this feeder better because the tray on the old one held too much water that wicked up into and ruining the seed. It also provided a place just large enough for doves to roost, keeping the finches from landing on the feeder. No such problems with this feeder. The feeding holes in the tube are so small that I wondered at first if the birds could actually grab seed through them, but this has not been a problem. I highly recommend this feeder to anyone who wants to attract finches to their yard.

Got this hoping the yellow color would attract finches and it has, the American Goldfinch love it! It is sturdy, well built, the lid moves out of the way to fill it. Haven't tried cleaning it yet but the access looks great. Have had thistle and a finch mix in it and the birds just sit and eat, eat, eat! Highly recommend this feeder.



UPDATE ON CLEANING AND CRITTERS: This is a snap to clean, it easily snaps apart at the bottom and you have total access to the interior from the top and the bottom. Clever pushbuttons snap it apart so there are no parts flying around to lose. It is also holding up very well - neither racoons, squirrels nor the bears have gotten it apart or inside it.

We bought 2 feeders, one for each side of the house. We hung them from a chain so they are 5' above the ground. The birds swarm to them 3 or 4 at at time at different times of the day. We have tried other feeders and the H828 and prefer this model because it is easy to assemble and reload with nectar and,of course, the birds seem to like them too. They will tilt slightly to one side if the nectar level gets low but this is a good indicator that it is time to refill. This feeder is worth the few extra dollars it might cost over cheaper models.

We feed about 100 hummers in the winter, 150 in the summer, and have for 40 years (98% are Annas and Allens); and always have 9 or 10 of these up and running. We have tried most of the feeders on the market, discussed others with those who have them, and this is clearly the best. It's little pricy, only lasts a decade or so in our mild NorCal climate (!), and is not very easy to clean--get a bottle-cleaning brush and a tiny nozzle brush for that. But it never spills over in hot weather if you don't overfill it, unlike all the gravitational feed feeders, it feeds 8 birds at a time (for a long time), and it's easy to keep bees off--at worst, a tiny sideways spray with flying insect spray will keep them off, without any going into the feeding tubes, or any bee fatalities. On the best evening fill-up times, we have at least 12 birds circling or on each feeder, and the noise of the wings is up there with massive duck raft take-offs; so the customers approve! Many of them would not get through the cold spells--freezing and snow--we get occasionally without this battery.
