I find this feeder to be really messy. This is my second disk hummingbird feeder, the previous one being a Perky Pets product that I had to replace since the threads stripped on the hanger rod after so many years. I wanted a disk feeder to use with our heater during ice storms and thought Droll Yankees would be a good choice since the Perky Pet product was too large for my hummingbird population. It has not worked out. There is a rim on the bottom in the middle (for screwing onto a ground post) that causes the disk to be unstable when you are filling and placing the top on. And, be sure you don't let the nectar in the feeder slosh around unless you feel like cleaning up the trail of sugar drops left behind from the kitchen to the feeder sight and on your shoes. I have tried not filling it too full (not an issue with my previous feeder) with no effective results. If you buy this feeder, be sure and bring your wet towel with you for mopping!

This is really what I've been searching for. A hummingbird feeder that's easy to clean. Droll Yankees makes quality products and I prefer their brand. But the real test comes from the hummers themselves. I had two of these in my yard this year. One had the included bee guards installed, and one didn't. From what I've observed, the hummers were always going to the one without the bee guards, even if they had to fight with the bees. The ant moat seems to work great. Jim Rossi

This feeder attracts a lot of hummingbirds! Not only is the red top large but the four perches make it easier for the them to rest while eating. We've had all four perches occupied at once.......it's very interesting to watch those little guys. Recommendation....... I had read that the best food is to mix one part plain granular sugar to 4 parts water because that was the closest mixture to actual nectar. They love that blend! I keep a batch in the fridge in a 2 liter container - 400 ml of sugar, add 1600 ml of water, shake and store. Ignore the commercial mixes.

I have been a fan of Droll Yankee for quite some time now. They are not the cheapest feeders on the market but they last and last, which makes them a great value in my mind.
I have one of their window-mounted hummingbird feeder but the ants seems to invade it every now and then. The main reason that I selected this model was that it comes with a built-in "ant moat" that, when filled with water, (I add a little vinegar to the water in order to keep it cleaner) makes it impossible for ants to get into the sugar water. It usually takes my hummingbirds a few weeks to find a new feeder but since the whole feed is red (hummers favorite color) they found it right away. I would suggest that if you like wild birds that you not waste your money on cheap feeders and get a Droll Yankee instead, you'll be glad that you did!

I have had this in use for about 3 weeks now. The hummingbirds seem to like it, they either hover or hang out on the perch to use it. It is as easy to clean as they state, which was my main reason for buying this style feeder. The red top snaps off and it is easy to clean both halves, and they even provide a special little brush to clean in where the hummingbirds get the nectar. It doesn't get messy and drippy like the gravity feeders, and the moat seems to be doing a good job - no ants in the nectar so far.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an easy to clean feeder.
